Each Saturday morning on ESPN College Game Day they have a piece titled “You Have One Job”. The piece shows what happens when a player miss's doing the "one job" assigned to him. Usually, something very basic & simple. The clip shows how the play falls apart often times leading to a touchdown for the opponent. 

 

At SFGC, Ian (Director of Golf) and Patti (the GM) provide us with everything we ask for. Namely, the very preferred tee times we all love in addition to tons of perks throughout the year. 

 

In return "We Have One Job”

 

That "one job" is this.

  • Keep up with the group in front of you. 
  • Recognize when you are "behind". 
  • Use READY GOLF to catch back up. 
    • Ready golf is where you hit out of turn intentionally.
    • Ready golf must be used when you're behind. If you don't use READY GOLF you'll never catch up. 

 

But first, you need to know when you are behind. 

 

Here’s some clues. 

- If the marshal stops and says something to you - You're behind. 

- When there's an entire hole between you and the next group - You’re behind 

- When you get to a par five tee and the group in front of you is on the green - You’re behind 

- If the green is open at a par 3. You’re behind. 

- If you walk up to a short par 4 and the green is open - You’re behind 

 

Falling behind is going to happen. It's a given.  What I’m saying is we have to catch back up. And it has to be the main thing on the entire groups mind.

 

We are all in this together so it's each player's responsibility to say "hey, fella's we are behind. Time for ready golf."

 

Lastly, I know there are players who are more deliberate than others. For you guys with a more deliberate approach I'll say this, you have to get your pre shot stuff out of the way sooner and hit when it’s your turn. Not 2 minutes after it’s your turn. Walk or drive the cart over too your ball while your partner is hitting. Be ready to hit sooner by doing things between shots to speed up. 

 

Be aware and remember - as a part of the men's club - we all have "one job".
